Up the Creek without your EOTech
I wanted to drop you guys a thank you for the construction of my EOTech 512. I took my AR rifle out hunting on Thanksgiving Day. To get to the land we hunt, you have to cross a creek by boat. It had been raining for days beforehand so the creek was up and the water was flowing fast. While I tried to get across, my canoe caught an undercurrent and flipped me into the fast moving, 35 degree water. I lost my rifle, canoe and paddle. After making it to shore and getting dry and warm, we realized that the canoe was somewhere downstream and the rifle, with the EOTech, could be anywhere in the creek. We found the canoe hung up on a bridge support downstream, but the rifle was lost. I had it in my mind that we would not find it until next summer, when we could go in the creek in warmer water and one of us would probably step on it. By chance, my brother in law was in the canoe we recovered taking a look for my rifle after the water level and flow had gone down. After a few minutes, he noticed a yellow and red object in the water. It was the laser warning sticker of the optic. He was able to recover the rifle, in full, with the optic still in place. Seems the rifle had sunk in such manner that the optic was wedged between two rocks on the creek bottom. After sitting in the creek for 12 days, my brother in law called me and told me the good news. I asked him to hit the On button and after he did, he said he saw a red light, which would be the reticle. He tried the brightness controls and turned the optic off and on a few times and everytime, it worked without hesitation. I have some cleaning to do on it, but the optic is in great shape and look forward to taking back out soon. Attached is a picture of the dirty, wet, working EOTech. The outside isn't bad, but there was a lot of dirt and fine grit in all the inside corners, chamber, and inlets throughout the rifle and optic. Thank you for an awesome product.
